The Rarities & Oddities Thread

As mentioned in another thread, there's a few cases where the LD version is preferred over the original. There's also some things that are just flat out rare as balls, and still demand a lot of dough. I think it's safe to say for the most part, there's not a ton of collectible LDs or DVDs. But, there are some.

Ones off the top of my head:

Project Daicon LD (Needs no introduction)
Angel's Egg (LD was rare... then a DVD re-release I think which is also rare).
Robot Carnival (Similar to Angel's Egg but the LD price is now almost nothing... DVD is pricey)

Kinda weird:
Maison Ikkoku and Urusei Yatsura were released on local DVD in singles for about 4000 yen apiece. These are all out of print, AFAIK, and still run between 2500 - 4000 yen each if you can find them all. There was a box set, which still seems pricey to me. A used MI on Amazon now for 88,000 yen... seems rather pricey to me all things considered.

Ah, yes! I only have the Area 88 LDs. Did the Robot Carnival LD have the Japanese audio track as well? (I own the soundtrack to that movie... it's fantastic). I think there is a list of some anime that was released on LD but was not released on DVD. I remember that Rumiko Takahashi's Rumic World OVAs were never released on DVD, such as Wannabees, Fire Tripper, and (I think) Mermaid's Scar or whatever that weird anime was called.
